1List your process steps and product families
One per line, up to 30 of each. A product family is a group of products that go through similar steps. You can also copy a column or row from Excel and paste it in.

Paste a whole matrix from Excel
Copy your table from Excel, including the process names across the top and the family names down the left. Any mark in a cell (X, 1, yes) counts as "goes through this step".
2Mark which families go through which steps
Click a box to add or remove an X. Click and drag to fill several boxes.
3Suggested value streams and monuments
Add at least two product families and two process steps, and mark some X's. The suggestions appear here.
Arrange the matrix:
How it works. The app compares the steps each family uses and groups families that are alike into value streams. A step used by only one stream belongs to that stream. A step used by many streams, or by most families, is a monument: a shared resource that cannot sit inside one value stream. These are suggestions to discuss with the people who run the plant. Use the sliders to see how the answer changes, and click Make monument or Not a monument to override any step.
